It's been quite a while since i've done any updates to internetempowered.com as there has been no real interest. I will be posting updates soon.

So what about facebooks security...?

I'm sorry to say it but what I find funny is how people contact - email - petition facebook worrying about their security when they choose to put their entire life online. People cannot expect facebook.com to take any responsibility or accountability for what they choose to publish on facebook.com. If people choose to put it all out there, then it's a risk that they and they alone take.

Parents are supposed to lead by example and I know too many that are posting everything about their life on this site. How can parents expect their kids not to follow suit and do the same if that's the example???

Identity theft is on the rise, fastest rising crime in the world today. The information some people are giving on facebook makes them and theirs an easy target. Why would people post phone numbers, addresses, pics of their entire family - their cat, dog, house whatever and expect facebook to protect it and assume responsibility for it??? All of this information is posted on a remote server, people are taking that risk. There is no such thing as an unhackable internet server and facebooks servers would be a goldmine to a hacker. Banks and big box stores are getting hacked, why not facebook?

Is facebook to blame if someone loses their identity or has damage done to their lifestyles cause of what they posted? No, you cannot expect facebook.com to assume responsibility for what you post. They provide the playground, it's peoples choice to use it or not. If someone sends their child to a playground without supervision and that child is harmed in any way, is it the builders of the playground that are to blame?? I know it's a bad example but maybe it'll make people think.

How many people have read Facebooks terms of use and the rights people are giving up by registering and posting? Everything that gets posted to facebook (or other sites for that matter) is now PUBLIC DOMAIN!!!! Anyone can take your pictures and information and do whatever they please with it. When you delete anything from facebook, it doesn't go away, it doesn't disappear like a fart in the wind. There's always a backup, a copy somewhere of everything you've posted and is now the property of Facebook.com.

Are you thinking now? I sincerely hope you are because your kids are probably doing the same damned thing and they have the same knowledge as you, the parent. Do you think they read the terms of use for facebook? Now how are you supposed to teach them if you are leading by example?

The following link details the terms and usage of facebook, you really should read it all but there's one particular section you MUST read.
http://www.facebook.com/terms.php

User Content Posted on the Site:

When you post User Content to the Site, you authorize and direct us to make such copies thereof as we deem necessary in order to facilitate the posting and storage of the User Content on the Site. You may remove your User Content from the Site at any time. If you choose to remove your User Content, the license granted above will automatically expire, however you acknowledge that the Company may retain archived copies of your User Content. Facebook does not assert any ownership over your User Content; rather, as between us and you, subject to the rights granted to us in these Terms, you retain full ownership of all of your User Content and any intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights associated with your User Content.

What does this mean? Facebook is telling you that the content you post is exclusively yours, but you're giving them the right to do with it as they please.

Thank you.
